With all the snow and cold weather we have had this winter, I just had to post a seasonal painting. This one was completed some time ago and has since sold. The farm is not that far from where I live and having driven past many times, I stopped and did some studies etc before starting the actual painting. In this work I wanted to capture the feeling of an evening sky in winter against which the farm and surrounding trees could stand out. Unfortunately the surrounding area has been developed so I am glad that I captured the scene when I did as so many of the farms around here have gone. The painting was done in oils on canvas, size 20" x 40".

It is so good that you captured the scene for posterity. Future generations will lament that such a beautiful farm was destroyed.
I've come to regret things I didn't photograph, always good to record it NOW !
John, I believe some of these buildings in the painting still remain but there were two other farm houses and associated barns etc nearby that are gone. I have some (but not enough) photos of those plus the studies and sketches I did in my sketchbooks so not all is lost. And I agree, there are plenty who miss the many beautiful farm buildings of the past that are now long gone.
Probably like you John, I (almost) always carry a camera, even a quick shot taken at the side of a road can be useful to document. I have been trying to capture the farm buildings around Montgomery County for some time - even since I found them going to ruin, not to mention the ones destroyed in the name of 'progress'. Wish I was able to do the same with my Grandfathers farm in Cornwall so many years ago.
